THE ABYSS

THE ABYSS
The danger in all of this
Is to cast the mind into the abyss
Into the chasm of forgetting
Into depression begetting.

If not depression then something worse
Which we will then oft times curse,
If not in us then in ones we love
As mind flies away like the wooing dove.

Better to be like the searching magpie
Looking for happiness as it catches the eye
Trying as many things as we can imagine
Keeping the thoughts racing and desiring.

Making the mind and body work well is
Finding all the ways to avoid the abyss.
So, not to sit still and stare into space
Keep on the move ’til you’re pink in the face.

You know in this life it all makes sense
Don’t be a laggard and sit on the fence.
Conjure as many hobbies as you can imagine
Diversity is the weapon to beat brain famine.

Exercising the mind and the body as well
Is the way to avoid the slough of the swell
Remembrance games as silly as you like
Or ride round the park on your mountain bike!

With old folks to reminisce is all jolly fine
Do mix with the young ones, they’re good at rhyme
They keep you guessing, that’s good for the brain
Get out and about, take a ride on a train.

Don’t stick with the herd try to be unusual,
Go to a dance, nothing formal, just be casual.
If you must grow old then do it all gracefully
Or like me: avoid the abyss and do it disgracefully!

  1. Thank you, David, for telling us how to avoid the Abyss.

    1) Making the mind and body work well is Finding all the ways to avoid the abyss.
So, not to sit still and stare into space .. ……. We won’t.. No siree!!!
That is why we will ……. Keep on the move ’til we are pink in the face.

    2) We all know that If you must grow old then do it all gracefully but maybe we should follow your lead and ….. like YOU: avoid the abyss and do it disgracefully!

Love and Light to you and to all those who will read your post.
