THE ULTIMATE QUESTION

THE ULTIMATE QUESTION
What is the question that worries you most,
Is it to go on holiday inland or coast
Whether to breakfast on cereal, fruit or toast
Or what you saw in the corner of your eye: a ghost?

The words you always have, to help others
Is it a gift you have, just like those others,
Or was it inherited from your mother?
The one you dare not tell, your brother!

Burning question: is he, she right for me
You come out frantically searching for the key
Are you guilty? Did you ignore a desperate plea
Or forget to pay a life pending outstanding fee?

The cold queries that freeze your heart
For just one mistake your world could fall apart
Something to be said for the Amish horse and cart
Is it just yearning for cool … peace … apart?

Is meditation ‘Aum’ your latest, greatest thing
Or is it prayer you believe everything will bring
Is sound your thing to chant or the round to sing
Your favourite songs or new steps for dancing?

What brings you joy and happy accord,
Is it the close feeling of the Lord?
After all He is within you and abroad
No question, He is the only one to praise and to laud.

Well, dearest David, yes, it brought back memories. Especially that part of your post which I quote here:
The cold queries that freeze your heart
For just one mistake, your world could fall apart
Something to be said for the Amish horse and cart
Is it just yearning for cool … peace … apart?

But even the Amish don’t always live in peace with one another, that too is something to be said about trying to avoid to Modern World.
Wish you and all your readers a fine weekend.
    With love.
    Eugene

Yes indeed dear Eugene, the vision of the horse and cart may be all very well and maybe some will revert to that when the oil runs out, but as you imply it takes all sorts in all communities, what chance then of the wider world to find peace in this age of upheaval and tremendous turmoil? Challenges, challenges!Love David
