Consider for a moment that all things made we have named, and all things we see and perceive not made by man we have also named, and yet the Eternal ‘Source of All There Is’ has no name!

The Tao Te Ching states: ‘The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The unnameable is the eternally real.’

The mistake we make it seems to me is to name the only eternal part of ourselves which some call Soul and others Spirit – don’t we humans just love names? Sad in a way that semantics get in the way and that we are so concerned with its name that we miss the beautiful song of the bird that serenades us in our garden!

And of course we became so besotted with whether he was, a man or a god, that many have missed his message of love, which I would still believe even if it were proved he never existed as a man: My beloved Brother, Teacher and Master Jeshua ben Joseph. You may call him by another name!

I use the word Soul for that real part of me which belongs forever to the Source of All There Is, the Lord Logos, the sole Divine Source of the Universe, and in that respect I go against the teaching of the Tao, but I am not unhappy with that, as I am not ashamed to dis-agree with some of the philosophy of LaoTzu. Neither do I believe all that I read in other so called Good Books which have been so mucked about by man that one cannot believe anything without, shall we say, blind faith!

The Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans named all of their gods, and the Pharaohs who tried to recognise and name but One were soon annihilated for their audacity to go against the priests although they proclaimed themselves like Roman Emperors as gods. Until of course the Prophet, Bless his name, came along and the idols of all the gods were destroyed. (Which I recall from a past life.)

If you talk to East Indians you will find many gods and West Indians have but one, while some of us exercising our free-will prefer not to recognise or name any one at all. Are they the sensible ones? Privately knowing the One, perhaps in a different way, but not letting the rest of us know their secret!

The Catholic Church decries idols, but walk into any Catholic church and it is full of alcoves and Chapels with larger than life size I-dolls!

When all is gone in the final holocaust on Planet Earth and we are sufficiently savvy to find another planet to plunder, when we have saved enough of our Lords and Masters in their deep nuclear bunkers, who have then made the ultimate decision which of us to take with them to leave this depleted place to try to perpetuate this sad human race. What then?

I wonder which blue planet they will have found circling say one of the stars in the belt of Orion and which group of stars whose configuration they will try to copy from their new viewpoint, no doubt with their space-castle-skyscrapers and what name they will give to their new found gods? Of course there is always the chance that by then Mankind may have woken up to Eternal Reality and leave their idols, insolence and ignorance behind!

So what name do you give yourself? What do you answer when asked, ‘Who are you?’ and ‘What’s your name?’ or ‘What do you call yourself?’ Do you hide behind a nom-de-plume on the pages of a blog like this. I use the name Hanukah which was a gift for services rendered if you like to a spiritual circle, many years ago, in which I acted as a voluntary scribe, but everyone knows who I am.
You know like “Cheers” the bar where everyone knows your name!

At a certain level or dimension names are not required, form is non-existent and all is known by its vibration or frequency, if you like! After all this is a Universe of vibration. Any entities that may come into contact with mankind have no names, but of course are named by mankind that it seems cannot live without names, having left our psychic and telepathic abilities back in the depths of pre-recorded history!

Imagine for a moment that the whole Universe is formless and mere vibration, just like an atom which we cannot see. Maybe the fact that we can see things like plants, flowers, stars, sun and moon were made viewable for our own unique experience on this one and only schoolroom of planet Earth with its rich variety of flora, fauna and seven major colours! We are blessed when you think that the high Astral plane of Yanini has only blue!

You know as well as me that the old saying, “Sticks and stones may hurt my bones but names will never hurt me” has no validity whatsoever, for names spoken or written can be hurtful to the point of causing such inner turmoil as we see recently on Internet bullying that we can be driven to suicide. The silent sign on a screen is often more deadly than the spoken word or the stab of a stiletto. ‘The pen is mightier than the sword’.

Take care with names: Parents give us names for a purpose and they are shortened or we are given nicknames that we can be happy with, as marks of friendship and love which we are pleased to accept, but please take them no further and treat all whom you meet with only the names they love and are happy with. It is surprising the number of people, especially of women who have changed their names. Why?

Of course if you are unhappy you can always change your name and when of age legally by deed poll in the UK! But those using the Internet can assume any name and any gender they wish to imitate, intimidate, confuse and trick others. Beware!
If you are the least unhappy do talk to parents and friends about possible bullying, whatever the name.
Love your name and be Happy with Hanukah

  1. I thought long and hard before I chose the name Dreamwalker.. when I first went incognito in my Window Live Spaces days… I found an interesting web page about the name Dreamwalker defining its meaning as ~ A dreamwalker is one who works with and within the dream to understand, to create, to heal, to meet with elderhearts, to journey this realm (out of body), to work with other worlds and realms, to teach, … to be one with the ultimate ONE.

I hope I am worthy of its namesake… And my name Susan meaning graceful Lily and also meaning I read~
People with this name tend to be idealistic, highly imaginative, intuitive, and spiritual. They seek after spiritual truth and often find it. They tend to be visionary and may inspire others. If they fail to develop their potential, they may become dreamers, or misuse power.

Not having looked up that version before it seems our parents are guided to name us well 🙂 🙂

    Wonderful Post David

As I say my name of Hanukah was a name given from upstairs for acting as the scribe which then led to being secretary of the church. Eventually all received their names who sat in the circle. Along with the name comes the gift of light through words. Dreamwalker is beautiful and you are worthy. Love, David

Funny thought: If stars, galaxies, hurricans and people were not given names, they would be given an incomprehensible number! Mother would call to her child in the garden,at meal time “Thingy, it’s thingtime! Or, “123456789, 987654321 is ready and getting cold!”
