GRAND DAUGHTER

The first time I held her woke my wits
a new soul in our matching red outfits.
I felt the beating of her tiny heart
as mine fluttered to match her part
in this first fond and gentle embrace

I gazed in rapture at her perfect face.
The red only serving to accentuate
matching eyes of blue lace agate.
To see to touch to listen and learn,
this soul has begun its witness term
where once projected on the path,
can only watch, wait and do the math.
The experiences of a lifetime unfold
as with each passing day, being bold,
I’ll try to be there and offer my hand
to help and guide whatever is planned.
Blessings heaped upon this gorgeous girl
have drawn my mind into a vortex whirl.
That a thing so immense contained inside
a cosmic being, a soul so full of light resides.
The miracle of birth, of life repeats and rides
the roller coaster of living in humanity
Please God she will be one in perfect unity.

Wonderful welcoming poem, David. Aren’t granddaughters wonderful? Grandsons are just as wonderful, of course, but it is always to greet them into the universe. Congratulations!
